Raise a Glass

Lovers intertwined on a lazy Sunday, 
Sapphic and serene, they ponder the odds,
The chance to live lifetimes like these,
Within an art-filled world,
Under a heart-filled sky.

Raise a glass of pink lemonade,
Toast to those that paved the way,
Those forever erased by history – 
As ‘best friends’, ‘gal pals’ or ‘roommates’,
Or perhaps all three.

To those who endured the pain and torment,
To those who faced the piercing gazes,
To those prosecuted, persecuted and executed,
Our hearts are raised to you.

Sweet lovers of the future, 
This time is in your hands,
Know that now and forever,
My heart is where you stand.
